We all love gifts. We love to give gifts to those that we love, and we love to receive gifts. There is something special about getting a true gift — something that we do not have to do anything to receive. We didn’t have to work to earn it or give anything in exchange. It is truly a blessed thing when all we have to do is simply accept the free gift with a spirit of thankfulness.
The Holy Injil tells us that God has a gift that he longs to give us, and it is the gift of eternal life. This is a gift that each of us needs. Since the first man and woman, we have all had a problem. When Adam and Hawa disobeyed God, sin came into the world and brought death with it. Our sin separates us from God, who is the very source of our life. Because of our sin and our shame, we cannot enter into the presence of God. After only one wrong thing, Adam and Hawa were removed from Paradise, and there was nothing that they could do to remove their shame. They tried to make clothes from fig leaves, but it was not enough. And so God himself made clothes for them, but he had to make the first sacrifice to do it. He killed an animal to make clothes to cover their shame. This was a gift from God to them.
The prophet Ibrahim received a similar gift from God. When God told Ibrahim to sacrifice his son, he obeyed. But before he could kill his son, God stopped him and gave him a ram to take the place of his son. The ram died, but the son did not. God gave him the gift of the lamb to save Ibrahim’s son.
Later, God gave another gift to all people–a gift to remove the sins of the world. The prophet John the Baptist (Yahyah) once pointed to Jesus al Masih and said, “Look! It’s the lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world!” Jesus came to take away the sins of the world and offer us life instead. God’s Word says, “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” The payment for sin is death–we are separated from God and there is nothing we can do to bring life again. We need new life that only comes from God, and God wants to give you that eternal life for free through faith in Jesus. All that you have to do is believe, trust Jesus as your Lord to do what you cannot do, and receive the wonderful gift from God. Would you like to receive this gift?
